Why Yoga?

Over the course of a life, we try different things to optimize our health. Some stick, some don’t. Yoga has stuck for me in a big way, and here are some reasons why:

  • I have been fortunate to be taught by compassionate, loving, wise teachers. Are they all like that? No! But the good ones I had were so good, that they made me want to keep showing up.

  • It felt great within my body. Especially once I accrued my beginner collection of the best teacher advice.

  • Yoga is humble. There is nothing to prove to others, and you are redirected to your own experience each time you are tempted to seek that external validation. It was the antithesis to everything I learned that was fitness-related, and it purified how I relate to my body and my physical experience.

  • It made me physically flexible, which was cool, and still nowhere near as impactful as how much it increased mental and emotional flexibility.

  • It showed me how my posture reflected my inner experience, and I was able to significantly improve both.

  • It made me open my eyes at how differently older yogis move and look than their non-yogi peers.

  • It led to healing of trauma I did not expect.

  • It allowed me to find the space between event and reaction.

  • It morphed into a personal practice over time, one that is always there for me, no matter what is going on in the world.

There are about 75 others reasons, if not more. I choose to teach to empower ALL to find THEIR practice. To use the power of ancient wisdom to find your own pure relationship with your body, with your whole self. To teach you how to know that you are enough, just as you are, and how to meet yourself where you are. - Maria
